Overview: Step away from modern power tools and get lost in the simple joy of the hand plane. Learn to use a hand-held wood plane and wooden jig block system, to craft your very own ecofriendly chopsticks or artistic hair sticks. Each student will make two pairs of chopsticks or hair sticks.
In this class, you will learn basic wood craft techniques including:
-Using a hand plane
-Sanding with range of sandpaper grits to create a polished finish
-Applying food safe finish
Great for beginners! This class is open to all skill levels.
All students must wear close-toed shoes and tie back long hair. Anyone who does not adhere to the dress code cannot participate in the class and will not be refunded.
Chopsticks/Hair sticks need to soak in mineral oil overnight to fully absorb the finish. Sticks can be picked up a maximum of a week later.
Wooden utensils are not dishwasher safe and although they have a long-life span, they will eventually wear out with normal use. A small square of sand paper, a mini bottle of mineral oil, and care instructions to help preserve your chopsticks and hair sticks will be sent home with each student.
